"Mist & Clouds Show"

Teng Shu-Ming, an American-Chinese-Japanese Artist, has been a cover and featured artists in Ventura Life & Style Magazine and has exhibited her work internationally.  She works with Sumi or Sumi-e inks and Chinese Watercolors from a traditional foundation dating back thousands of years in China and Japan, but with an auspicious use of color.  Over time, Teng Shu-Ming has infused subtle influences from California landscape watercolorists.  She has personally visited and photographed the stunning mountain and waterfront vistas represented in her work, which in this exhibit spans from 1975 to 2008.

It seems that our personalities are demonstrated to the world in many ways! As Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) stated,Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” I have been privileged to be able to live and paint in California, and to travel to other parts of the world as well. The paintings in this collection are from New England and points abroad. I hope the viewer enjoys these scenes near and far.

He is the current President of the Buenaventura Art Association.

I’m compelled to convey through language and imagery my emotional responses to what I encounter. I often transcribe these feelings through poems, paintings or linocuts, some of which overlap. Lines are a fixed element in both my art and poetry, but much of life’s content is expressed between the lines.

"Tales from the Undergrove"

These paintings began with a series about my ancestors, and progressed to landscapes and portraits of friends.  I paint and draw with old and new photographs using a graphic tablet and Painter,  collaging images as textures, brushes and backgrounds, printing on canvas and painting with oils and acrylics.  To me there is an inherent fascination in using modern technology to explore the techniques of the masters.

Warm glass is an organic material whose properties are constantly changing during the creative process.  For Frances Elson, working in this ancient medium presents constant challenges and the opportunity to blend creative expression and technical skill.  This solo exhibition represents this combination of fine art, applied art and craftsmanship.  The pieces in the exhibition range from fine tableware, jewelry and home décor to fine art pieces including two and three dimensional wall hangings and sculpture.

Inés is known for color and movement in her monotypes and water media. In this collection she includes narrative factors in her work with abstract and figurative elements. Using mixed media on paper, canvas, and board she explores symbolism in color and form. The compositions emphasize layers in time and in meaning, from the personal to the general, including cultural/ethnic icons.

My penchant for remote geographic locations in my photography stems from my love of travel and discovery as well as my passion for geography. I Specialize in the capturing on film of wide open spaces, which I admire for what I like to call their "desolate beauty" I mean to imply quietness and ruggedness, which is often encountered in remote locations of Sierra Nevada, Death Valley, Mono Lake.

"Wilderness Trails of Ventura"

Nationally known artist of the Los Padres National Forest, Robert Wassell has been documenting the forest for 22 years.  His paintings show a pristine wilderness where the only sign of man is a trail or dirt road.  To reach the site of his works you have to hike several hours, so this is not the forest you see from your car window.  He is known as the back packer's artist and is well known by many lovers of the forest.  Wassell has a unique stile and vision that is unlike any other artist in the Ventura region.
